When Donald Trump was running in the recent election, he proposed Project 2025. The plan was created by the Heritage Foundation, and it makes it even harder for the American people to have a say in government policies. The goal is to limit federal involvement in environmental policy through lessened power, rulemaking, and smaller agencies. The Trump administration is pushing for the deregulation of many environmental policies implemented by the previous administration. This causes many problems for our future if we don’t take the climate crisis seriously now.
Project 2025 includes multiple plans for the environment, according to this article on it, https://rb.gy/tzr9mz. It includes eliminating safeguards that protect Americans' access to clean air and drinking water. They also plan to dismantle the Inflation Reduction Act put in place by President Biden, which has already created 300,000 new jobs and eliminated tax credits. Oil and gas companies would also be able to drill wherever and whenever they want, causing pollution and toxic waste to get into our air. They even want to privatize the National Weather Service, which would prevent it from forecasting extreme weather events. These plans will make life harder for those who are already struggling and increase pollution and energy costs, harming the climate crisis.
Project 2025 threatens the jobs of experienced government workers, wanting to replace them with people chosen for their political views. This is a problem with our climate crisis because it is eliminating people with important knowledge about our planet. I found more about this in an article about climate leadership, https://rebrand.ly/khza44a. For example, there is a role called the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, which focuses on working with other countries to fight climate change. John Kerry, who has used his years of experience to help countries agree to reduce their fossil fuel emissions in 2023, held that role. In 2024, he was replaced by John Podesta, former White House Chief of Staff. If project 2025 were to eliminate this role and ones like it, the U.S. would lose its leadership in global climate efforts.
A huge goal Project 2025 has is to increase fossil fuel use, according to this article https://rebrand.ly/lxqcb03. The U.S is one of the world’s largest contributors to carbon dioxide emissions, furthering the climate crisis. Their plans to drill in protected areas will cause irreversible damage. Our landscapes and ecosystems could be gone forever.
Overall, Project 2025 makes it clear that the direction of climate policy is at a turning point. With the expansion of fossil fuel use and the removal of experienced leadership roles, they would undo years of progress. This is not just a political issue; our future is at stake. If actions aren’t taken seriously now, the consequences will be irreversible.

This really makes you think about how our president seems to care more about fossil fuel production rather than the health of his citizens. I feel like the current administration is looking at the short-term benefits, rather than the long-term implications. It makes me irritated when they aren't considering the lives of the future generations who will be left to try and fix their mess. Good job Claire :)
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to see our own president and current administration focusing on profits - selling out to fossil fuel - instead of the well-being of their people. Especially when they benefit heavily off these privatizations.
ReplyDeleteYour post does a great job highlighting how unfair and unethical it is to be so greedy for fossil fuel production that you put the earth and all of its inhabitants at risk. To be so outwardly prioritizing such a harmful process and material instead of using very accessible and more responsible alternatives is mind boggling.
ReplyDeleteThis post really shows how the Trump administration doesn't actually care about the American people like they say, but just with lining their own pockets. Replacing experienced government workers and removing safeguards that literally only exist to protect people in danger are the clearest examples of this imaginable. Every single time I hear about Project 2025, I'm taken aback again by how evil it is.
ReplyDeleteI like how each paragraph covers a different aspect of Project 2025, and your argument is clear and supported by specific evidence. It shows how our leaders prioritize profits over people.

ReplyDeleteIt seems like the U.S. isn't just stepping back but is actively creating a leadership vacuum for countries like China to fill. Do you think this isolationist energy policy might hurt American businesses that are trying to compete in the global green tech market?
ReplyDeleteI found your blog to be very educational! It is a huge concern how removing EPA authority allows fossil fuel companies to pollute with no barriers or restrictions, especially when our planet is already incredibly vulnerable to it. You hit the nail-on-the-head about why these regulations are so important. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThis blog post perfectly highlights the issue with our current president and his administration. It’s hard to see so many people who care more about status or money than climate change, or simply don’t care about climate change at all. Your blog was very thought-provoking. Well done, Claire!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is exactly what needs to be pushed out to the public. It summarizes the harms Project 2025 will do (and from your blog I now know the extreme harms it will do) and highlights why it's important to take action now, that we cannot wait.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you connected policy proposals to their real-world consequences. I think it's very important to understand that climate policy decisions today will have lasting effects on the future.
